Death Valley
I've been taking a class from the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and one of the modules was use of depth of field to draw the eye with a macro shot. This shot of my wedding ring was one of my entries. It is best viewed on black
There is a yearly challenge on 365 ( a photo site I post to) in February of shooting and posting a month's worth of black and white photos. On Valentine's Day you can add SC (selective color...usually red). Jasmine gave me this beauty years ago and I was shooting it also for my PSA class

Another shot for both my PSA class and the 365 challenge. This was our first daffodil of the year and I photographed it on a mirror
I wanted to shoot a salamander for my PSA macro class and kept taking my camera on our hikes...but we kept not seeing any. Then Jim was turning over the soil in the greens' bed and found this unusual visitor.
Isn't it beautiful? Thanks, Jasmine
This is a reedit of a shot I took in the bristlecone pine forest in CA several years ago

The other module I was working on for my PSA course this month was for creating and photographing a Still Life. This beautiful lamp was a gift from Basil and Terry a few Christmases ago
From our recent day trip to Bandon just as the sun went below the horizon
A reedit of a shot taken several years ago in Death Valley
We had a herd of 33 elk visit us this winter and one day they were so close to the door of my work area that I had to back up to get her whole body in the shot. She was looking at me through the sliding glass door
for the 365 black and white February challenge...taken in Bandon on our day trip
It was such a treat to have a sunset after so many days /weeks of rain and heavy overcast. 70" so far of rain here since October 10th
Signs of spring taken on a light box
Ahh...Spring!
This was for my PSA course on macro photography. We don't have a lot blooming yet but this bloomed after a few days inside in a vase of water
The other module I was working on for my PSA course this month was for creating and photographing a Still Life. The beautiful Shaker box was a gift from Sol and Monica
A reedit of a shot taken in the Grand Canyon one bitter cold snowy morning in October 2018
I was setting up a Still Life for my PSA module and happened to get myself in the reflection and thought it had a fun eerie quality
The other module I was working on for my PSA course this month was for creating and photographing a Still Life. The lantern was a gift from Basil and Terry several years ago and the old copy of Huck Finn inherited after my parents died
It is so cheery to have a couple of hummers overwinter here and bring their beauty to our window
On that bitter cold morning in the Grand Canyon, two friends and I had hired a local photographer to do a private workshop with us for the day. We got up well before dawn to shoot the sunrise and were met with pea soup fog. Finally an hour or so after the sun rose, we got to enjoy the light begin to show on the far side of the canyon
Another macro shot for my PSA course
I just thought this was kind of pretty. playing with depth of field
We were driving home from an early morning beach walk and pulled over for a quick shot of the amazing clouds
A friend in England turned me on to a fun new technique developed by Pep Ventosa. Usually it would be done outside perhaps with a tree. You shoot the same tree (or whatever) as you walk 360 degrees around it and then combine the shots. This was done inside with a single rosemary branch and I turned the vase instead of walking around it
Another shot for the 365 black and white challenge
Just as we were about to leave Bandon after the sunset, I saw this shot and sat on my butt to take it!
Another shot for the 365 black and white challenge
Another shot from the Bandon day trip
A reedit of this Grand Canyon shot
With all the rain and gloomy skies, I'm glad I have old photos to give a second look to
Another macro depth of field shot for my PSA course
One of the shots for the PSA Still Life module was supposed to be a natural still life. I had something in mind but the weather and tides didn't give me the opportunity so this is what I used
My favorite shot from our Bandon day trip
Jim and I were doing our morning Spanish reading looking out our living room windows when this appeared.
You will recognize this shot from last month's PSA architecture photos but I thought it might be good in B and W as well
We've only had a couple of sunsets this month but this one felt worth going out for. It was taken from the Waxmyrtle trail. If you look really carefully you can see a tiny walker out by the ocean
One more shot from Bandon
