Death Valley
When I was a child, I loved the butternut tree at our summer home and also the butternuts it produced. So, when we moved to OR, we planted two butternut trees. They have grown to majestic sizes but the nuts aer not the same!
When I closed my Eugene office and left several beautiful rose bushes behind that we had planted there, we decided to plant some at home. this is one of them
This is the nest full of 4 peregrine falcon chicks. See photo below called "I'm just learning to fly" for the saga of this nest
I set off for a sunset photoshoot at one of my favorite spots. The sunset wasn't very impressive but I had fun with long exposures
The local fire department recently had a "burn to learn" event where they burned an old structure for practice. It was fun to photograph.

I loved how he seemed so absorbed in sucking sweet nectar that his eyes closed
I was out to shoot the conjunction of Venus, Jupiter and the new moon...no such luck but I thought this was pretty
I love columbine flowers...and their aftermath as well

Reminds me of Ferdinand the bull lying in his flowers
I love these little birds and can't resist photographing them.

Love these little critters
There has been quite a saga at the falcon nest this year. Soon after the 4 eggs were laid way up high on a cliff edge, the father disappeared and another male moved in to help the mom. Finally they hatched about 6 weeks ago. Shortly after that, the mom disappeared. Since then the adoptive dad has been feeding them. There has been a 2 yo female hanging around. The 4 chicks fledged 1 1/2 weeks ago. Since then the 2 yo female has been harrassing them. One of the females was found dead on the ground...

apparently having starved and another was taken to rapture rescue nearby. Now there are just two...this female and a weaker smaller male. The adoptive dad brought two birds in for them yesterday morning but the female managed to get them both. Here she took a little flight but seemed to have been so much heavier with her belly so full that she quickly came in for a screeching halt.

Playing with Long Exposures mid day
I saw a picture taken from this spot in the daytime a few years ago and was clear I wanted to shoot there sometime at night with either new moon and bright stars or full moon lighting it from the side. I finally got there a few days ago. Beautiful spot.
I saw this out the window when the sun had just set and there wasn't time to get to a better spot.
Rachel and Mason having fun at Munsel Lake
In a park in Eugene there has been an bald eagle nest for the past few years. When I learned of it a few months ago, I knew I needed to go. I went back whenever I was in Eugene. This is before they fledged
I loved the light pouring through his wings
Such a sweet connection

I was amazed to see the boat so close. The local fire department recently had a "burn to learn" event where they burned an old structure for practice. It was fun to photograph.
We always have to stop at this place on the hiking trail because it always catches my eye. I have yet to get the shot I see in my eye.
