Stars and Moon At the Bay (We went to Kealakekua Bay for a 10 day visit and I was planning an early morning Milky Way shot here the next morning and was trying to figure out the composition. The next morning it turned out I had misread my star app and the Milky way was facing the other way. But at least I got this star and moon shot)
Stars and Moon At the Volcano (There was an almost full moon while we were at the volcano so it was in the shot here)
Sunset and Tsunami Alarm with Stars (Several years ago, we were visiting here just as they were finishing building their tsunami alarm system. The night after they got it finished, there was a tsunami and no one was hurt because of the warning!)
Sunset Blow Hole (Looking towards the bay from the fishing village)
Sunset from the Lanai through the Screening (We were sitting on the lanai eating dinner when the sun set)
Sunset on the Pali
Yellow Billed Cardinal (Enjoying the fountain just outside the lanai)
The Chase (Two ravens chasing off a juvenile bald eagle at Washburne Beach)
Three Quarters Moon (Hand held)
Tongue adjusting (I had never seen one of these little rufous females adjust the fluff with their long tongue)
Twilight Volcano (I just thought this was beautiful)
Volcano Lighting Up the Clouds (Shot right outside the Volcano House)
Waterfall on Lava (On walk to the fishing village)
Will He Land On Our Tree? (We've been hoping to attract waterfowl to our farm pond and got our hopes up when this blue heron flew across our yard and landed in a tree. It hasn't stayed though)
Yellow Beaked Cardinal Taking a Bath (Off the lanai)
Milky Way (At the Siuslaw Outlet)
Anniversary Sunset (We went down to the bay for the sunset and this couple was posed perfectly. Later when I offered to send them the shot, we learned they were there to celebrate their 15th anniversary)
B and W Juvenile Flying (At Washburne Beach)
Banyan Roots 2 (I find these somewhat irresistible)
Black Witch Moth (Apparently these are fabled to appear when someone has just or is going to die. we had never seen one before while staying at our favorite Hawaii B and B. The man whose place it was and whom we had adored had died 3 months before. His son who now runs the place said he bet it was his dad back for a visit)
Common Merganzer Pair (On the Siuslaw from the South Jetty trail)
Critters for the Babies (The first day we were there, Jim noticed that two mynah birds kept flying back and forth from the palm just outside our lanai. we figured there must be a nest. We watched them the whole time we were there. I got this shot of a parent with its beak full of critters after sitting on the step outside the lanai for about an hour. Shooting from inside the lanai was a great hide but the shots all had screening blurring them. It took a long time for the parents to get over feeling spooked by my presence)
Curious (Night time visitor to the fountain)
Date Palm Sunset (Taken on evening walk to fishing village)
Deep Sky Stack 2 (Siltcoos Outlet Milky way)
Enjoying the Bath
Enjoying the Sunset on Anniversary (We went down to the bay for the sunset and this couple was posed perfectly. Later when I offered to send them the shot, we learned they were there to celebrate their 15th anniversary)
Erkel's Francolin (We found this cool bird up on a road towards Mauna Loa)
Family Swim Reedit (The last time we were at Kealekua Bay for a vacation, paddleboarders, kayakers, and swimmers were all chasing the dolphins when they came into the bay to sleep. It was horrifying to watch. This year, they made it clear they were going to arrest people who were within 150 ft of them and giving out $600 fines. Since we can no longer swim with them, I decided to go back to old photos I had taken and find one to print for our wall. This is one possible option)
Feeding One of the Babies (This was taken from inside the lanai through the screening because I didn't want to spook the family. The second to last day before we left, one of the babies showed itself outside the nest)
Feeding the Babies Outside the Nest (This was taken from inside the lanai through the screening because I didn't want to spook the family. The last day before we left, one of the babies Clearly was about to fledge and two came out of the nest to be fed. The parent went back into the nest later so we figure there was at least one more baby in there)
First Rufous of the Year (I think the male rufouses in their breeding plumage are stunning. This was shot on our deck)
Fluff Gathering (You can see how small the female rufouses are in comparison to this cat o nine tails. Taken at Tahkenitch Landing)
Fly Away (I liked the simplicity)
Frog (Sitting at the side of Jim's pond warming up to sing love songs)
Froggy Went a Courting (X rated from Hawaii)
Geese (I like the shy look and the seeming disinterest in the mate)
Gray Francolins with Mango (This was in the yard below our lanai in Hawaii)
Horses and Wind Turbines (Shot on the road that goes to the most southern point of the USA)
Hummer Before We Left (We were all packed and ready to drive to Portland for our flight to Hawaii when I saw this beauty closer than they usually come so I grabbed my camera)
Java Sparrow (On one of the mango trees below the lanai)
Juvenile Eagle On A Branch (Washburne beach. We think this is the same juvenile we saw chased from the nest last year now a year older)
Juvenile Flying 2 (Washburne beach. We think this is the same juvenile we saw chased from the nest last year now a year older)
Kalij Pheasant (On the road up towards Mauna Loa...a bird we hadn't seen before)
Leaf Play 2022 Edit (The last time we were at Kealekua Bay for a vacation, paddleboarders, kayakers, and swimmers were all chasing the dolphins when they came into the bay to sleep. It was horrifying to watch. This year, they made it clear they were going to arrest people who were within 150 ft of them and giving out $600 fines. Since we can no longer swim with them, I decided to go back to old photos I had taken and find one to print for our wall. This is one possible option)
Manta Ray (We had a fabulous time watching the manta rays come in to feed)
Most Southerly Point of US
Mother Baby and Friends Reedit (The last time we were at Kealekua Bay for a vacation, paddleboarders, kayakers, and swimmers were all chasing the dolphins when they came into the bay to sleep. It was horrifying to watch. This year, they made it clear they were going to arrest people who were within 150 ft of them and giving out $600 fines. Since we can no longer swim with them, I decided to go back to old photos I had taken and find one to print for our wall. This is one possible option)
Orchid (Our host at the B and B who recently died grew gorgeous orchids. His son is doing his best to tend them and so far they look great)

Puddle Reflections (There had been a big rain in the night and we came to our usual spot to drink our coffee and watch the dawn at the bay and I saw this)

Saffron Finch (Shot through the screening)
Sea Turtle
